Area Carpet/Rugs in Classrooms

 

Goal:   To have a standard policy governing use of area carpets/rugs in classrooms.  The area carpets/rugs will meet indoor air quality standards.

 

Criteria: 

 

All area carpets/rugs are to be approved by the building administrators or the Director of Physical Plant before being placed in a classroom.  The Director of Physical Plant and/or building administrator will determine when it is necessary to remove an area carpet/rug due to disrepair, inability to clean, and/or for safety issues.

 

Requirements:

 

1.      No more than two area carpets/rugs per classroom not to exceed a total of 150 square feet.

2.      Area carpets/rugs must be labeled as hypoallergenic, have a short pile or weave, and have bound edges with no fringe.

3.      Area carpets/rugs must have skid resistant backing or strips.

 

Cleaning:

 

1.                  Vacuum all area carpets/rugs daily.

2.                  Extract (wash) all area carpets/rugs twice a year and as necessary. (i.e. contaminated by blood or other body fluids.)
